As a working fishing village Chaloklum has its own energy that’s still quite unaffected by mass tourism. Manages to keep its original Thai village charm and the area still remains largely undeveloped.

One of the most beautiful tourist destinations on the West coast of Koh Phangan. Well placed on the island as both a base for short stay holidays and also for longer term residency. Although Chaloklum is pretty much as far to the North West as you can stay on the island. Easily accessible by road – being just a 30 minute taxi or motorbike drive from the main town of Thongsala. Remains an unspoilt area of natural beauty where you can still experience the real Koh Phangan.

A beach here is about 2km long – separated in the middle by the pier. Crystal clear, shallow, turquoise waters lap up to the beautiful stretch of course, white coral sand to the north end of the beach – ideal for young children to paddle and an ideal spot for swimming. Coconut trees line the beach giving some much needed shade during the midday sun. Best to walk a few metres further along the beach well away from the boats to allow safe swimming or snorkelling. Small patches of coral reef here if you enjoy snorkelling, but it’s not the best spot on the island. Head to Mae Haad or Salad Beach if snorkelling is top of your list.

To the south end of the bay you will find Malibu Beach which is directly in front of Malibu Beach Bungalows, the upscale bungalow resort that gives the beach its name. With its powder, soft white sand and shallow waters Malibu Beach is an ideal beach in Chaloklum for families, couples and single travellers alike. The shallow waters here are excellent for children to go swimming and play in the sand pit, soft sand – this has to be the softest sand you will find anywhere on Koh Phangan While there’s plenty of shade from the prettiest and most perfectly pruned trees you will see on the island.
