There are a number of quality dive sites on and around Koh Phangan Island. The most popular dive site in the area and top of the list has to be the world famous Sail Rock. It is here that you could encounter the largest fish in the ocean – Whale Sharks. These fascinating gentle giants, along with hundreds and thousands of other fish, often cruise around Sail Rock within the extensive coral reef gardens. Massive shoals of beautiful fish, rays, moray eels, nudibranchs, crabs and shrimps are just a few examples of what you’re sure to meet whilst Koh Phangan scuba diving and Sail Rock.

Koh Ma is an island just off the north west tip of Koh Phangan where you can reach the dive site from Mae Haad Beach or by boat. This dive site is very popular with dive boats and snorkel trips so can get quite busy at times. The reef is full of hard and soft corals with a variety of marine life which includes several species of, butterfly fish, banner fish, large groupers and hunting barracuda, to name but a few.
Further South on the island, the coral reef just off Haad Salad Beach offers some of the best local scuba diving on Koh Phangan. There is a mixture of hard and soft corals at Haad Salad Reef. Typical marine life you may see includes stag corals, anemones, angle fish, butterfly fish and damsel fish. Shallow waters make for easy and relaxing diving, especially those looking to try scuba diving for the first time or the less experienced.
Haad Yao Beach offers a beautiful reef that runs along most of the shore. With colourful corals and an abundance of reef fish, it’s an appealing place for both scuba divers and snorkelers. The dive site here is shallow and so is ideal for novice divers.
